Skull Hill Is Golgotha

Rock (hill), on top of which according to the legend, Jesus was crucified Christ. Its name owes the rock remains (skulls – "golgoleth" Hebr.), that were left at the place of execution.
There is a belief that in this place was buried Adam.
The right of the main entrance to the Church of the Resurrection, upstairs are two stairs. Climbing on them, you can touch one of the main shrines of Christianity – the rock where Jesus was crucified Christ of Calvary.
Calvary is divided three altars: the Altar of the Crucifix, the Altar, the Nails and the Altar Stand the virgin.
On the left side – altar of the Crucifixion, belonging to the Greek Orthodox Church. Located, where according to the testimony of the cross was installed, the altar is the place of Jesus ' crucifixion. Under glass at the altar you can see the surface of the Calvary, and under the altar – the hole where the hand goes down to touch the sacred places.
On the right is the Altar of the nails. According to the legend, it was here that Jesus ' clothes were torn and he was nailed to the cross. Altar of the nails belongs to the Franciscan order.
Between these two altars is the third Altar "Stabat Mater" (virgin Mary Standing). Very small Catholic altar was installed in the place where the virgin stood during the crucifixion of the son of. Mounted above the altar the statue of our lady was donated to the Queen of Portugal. The heart of the virgin pierced with a sword as a symbol of the prophetic words of Simeon the God-receiver. At the statue you can see a huge number of donations of jewelry, left by pilgrims.
