Via Dolorosa - the Road of Pain (Sorrowful way) – the path that Jesus has done from the place where he was condemned to death, to Calvary, - the place where it was executed. Canonized 14 stops, each of which, according to tradition, took place at various events. Later, these stops, and with them and events that were marked by churches, chapels, chapels. Only 9 of them, anyway, were mentioned in the Gospels. The rest live in tales and legends. For centuries the existence of the route, he repeatedly undergone various changes. On the route known today, are held every year, millions of pilgrims – Christians.

Its the beginning of the Sorrowful way takes the Lion's gate in the Muslim quarter. First stop is the place where according to tradition Christ was sentenced to death - the Tower of Antonia, which was then the residence of the Procurator of Judaea Pontius Pilate, at the moment tower no longer exists. In its place was built a Catholic convent.
The second stop is the Church of the Flagellation. It was here, according to legend, was devoted to the scourging of Jesus, and once was clothed in a scarlet shroud and the crown of thorns. In this place he took the cross and Pontius Pilate presented Jesus convicted the crowd with arches thrown across the street.
A small Catholic chapel marks the Third Stop of the cross. Built on the donations of the Polish soldiers, a chapel marks the first fall of Christ under the weight of his burden, what the story of the bas-relief above the entrance to the chapel.
The fourth stop is perpetuated more by tradition, since no description of it in the gospel there is a meeting with Mother. According to the legend, this place was watched by the virgin at the suffering of his son, and the bas-relief above the entrance to the Catholic Church, depicts the meeting of mother and son.
The fifth stop is on the corner of two streets, the via Dolorosa and al-wad. At this place was built a Franciscan chapel, marking the place where Jesus is leaning against the wall, briefly freed from heavy burdens.
The sixth stop was a meeting with the Veronica – shaped name combination of the words "Vera icon". According to legend, when the procession passed by, Veronica left the house to meet Jesus, and applied to the face of his handkerchief, dipped in cold water. Towarnicka was later canonized, and the shawl – not that other, as the Face of Christ (Saviour) – the face of Jesus imprinted on the handkerchief of Veronica, which is still kept in Rome, in St. Peter's. The chapel of St. Veronica stands for the sixth stop of the Sorrowful Journey.
On the seventh stopping place was built a Franciscan chapel marking the place where Jesus falls the second time. Not far from here, on the Alexander Podvorie are plate of Judgment the Gate found during the excavations of much later. The eighth stop is marked by the Church of Saint Charalambos where the stone wall is carved the word NIKA. The place, where according to legend, Jesus turned to the women mourning him, foretelling the coming destruction of Jerusalem.
The ninth stop, according to legend, saw Jesus Calvary. And here he fell a third time. Here built a small Ethiopian monastery, where is a column indicating the ninth stop.
The remaining five stops are inside the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
The tenth station – the place where Jesus is stripped of his clothes before his execution. At this point, is the chapel of "Revelations".
Eleventh stop – the site of the crucifixion. On this place was built an altar, above the altar – the image of Jesus Christ nailed to the cross.
Twelfth stop – marks the death of Jesus on the cross. At this place the pilgrims can touch the top of Calvary, through the hole in the stone floor under the altar.
At the thirteenth stop, according to tradition, Jesus was taken down from the cross. The place where was laid the lifeless body, marked the altar. And the stone of Anointing, which became sacred to all Christians, is the very stone on which the incense had been washed the body of Jesus before burial.
The fourteenth and final stop is the canopy installed over the burial place of Jesus. The tomb in which was laid the body of Christ, and the entrance was closed by a huge stone. Here, according to legend, there was the miraculous Resurrection of Christ.
