Heart of Jerusalem – Old city, stunning views from the olive mount. Here at a glance you can see the walls of the city, more than thirty towers with battlements, domes of churches, synagogues and mosques, and, of course, the gates into the city. The entire Old city has eight gates. The main and the most well known are the Jaffa gate.
Fabulous and mysterious, with a touch of some special sanctity atmosphere will envelop you from the first steps inside the Old town walls. It does not matter were you here, or came for the first time, visiting the Old Town is always a magical event.
The old, narrow paved streets, not having aged walls and arches, columns, sparking the Arab identity of the market - all this takes You to many centuries ago. Time seems to have stopped. Telling you my story, the city invites you to wander through the streets, polished billions of steps. It is on these streets was written in the long history of religions, here was built the First Temple, there they crucified Jesus the Christ, ascended from here to Heaven the prophet Mohammed. These streets at different times, went merchants and wars, kings and beggars.
The old City is divided into 4 quarters, the largest of which is Muslim. Here are Holy for all Muslims of the place is al Masjid al Aqţa ' and the dome of the Rock. Through the Muslim quarter passes and the via Dolorosa (road of pain) - the way of the cross. The whole neighborhood is full of shops and stalls, which makes it particularly attractive for tourists.
In the center of the Christian quarter is the Church of the Resurrection – the most important Christian relics. In the quarter, more than 40 churches, temples and hostels for accommodation of countless pilgrims.
The smallest area of the Old city – the Armenian Cathedral of St. James in the center. Very old, very closed and almost deserted.
Famous Jewish quarter, the Wailing Wall – the main Shrine of the Jews. Also, in the Jewish quarter was excavated portion of the ancient shopping street (the Cardo), built by the Roman Emperor.
Each wall in the Old City breathes its own history.
All this makes the Old City in Jerusalem is one of the most famous pilgrimage places in the world.
