The garden of Gethsemane

About attractions

Gethsemane

Just above the Kidron valley, at the foot of the mount of olives, adjacent to the Church of All Nations garden of Gethsemane. The garden itself isn't very large (the area is about 1200 square meters), but its undeniable historical and religious significance makes the garden particularly attractive to tourists and pilgrims.
According to legend, among the olive trees of Gethsemane, prayed the night before Jesus crucifixion. Powerful, majestic crowns of ancient olive trees seems to still have night whisper of Christ. In the garden of Gethsemane eight grow old olive trees, aged more than 2000 years.
Gefsimanii called the whole valley at the foot of the mount of olives, so it's hard to say where it started the passion of the Christ. According to the legend, it is here that Christ came to the apostles after the secret Vacherie. From here ascended the Prayer of the Cup, flying down from the lips of Jesus. Here is the Basilica of the Agony, here on the cliff top, praying to Jesus Christ.
And beautiful Church of Mary Magdalene, and the Church of the Dormition of the virgin, and the main Church – Church of All Nations (or the Church of the Passion), and the Grotto of Gethsemane - these are all places that will reveal some of the long history of Gethsemane.
The garden itself still bears fruit, and at the Church of the Nations is the Female Monastery of Gethsemane.
In the vicinity of the garden of Gethsemane, is the Church of the Holy Family, the construction of which dated to the VII century, in the basement, buried parents of the virgin Mary, Anna and Joachim.
It is believed that a walk between the olive trees of Gethsemane, and the prayer offered in the shade of the trees it will help to find a solution to an important, pressing problems and make the right choice.
